Some people believe to be hooligans of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday clahed with police at the Ashanti regional delegates conference in the Ashanti region .
The heavily built men who didn’t have accreditation were kept from entering the Kumasi Sports Stadium where the election were held.
The police were reported to have arrested one of them as they tried to restore calm .
However, his colleagues wouldn’t allowed the police to take the suspect away ; bringing about some fight.
“The macho men insisted that they won’t permit the police to take away the suspect. So they battled them for some time,” an eyewitness secretly revealed to this reporter .
The young men , numbering around thirty, were angered by a warning shot from the police trying to scatter the group.
This came about in a wide open battle among them and the police. They pelted the police with stones while the police also resorted to the use of the butts of their rifles.
Eventually, the police needed to leave the primary access to ensure calm
In the mean time, the use of hooligans in local elections abuses electoral laws.
As per Election Committee Chairman Nuru Hamidan, security won’t be compromised in the electoral exercise.
“No private security at the stadium. We have organized with the state security to get the area and to safeguard lives. The hopeful who feels shaky and needs private security will be given in that capacity, we will not engage hooligans, security will be tight,” he said.
