Following the confirmation of Christian Atsu’s death, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his deep regret and acknowledged that the football star’s absence would be felt greatly.
Christian Atsu’s lifeless body was recovered from the rubble in the Kahramanmaraş region of Turkey after a determined search by his agent, Nana Sechere, and several of his family members.
Christian Atsu had been missing since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey on February 6, 2023, during the early hours of Monday.
President Akufo-Addo extended his condolences to the family of Christian Atsu, the former Chelsea and Black Stars footballer, stating that “Ghana has lost one of its best footballers,” following the announcement of his death.I extend sincere, heartfelt condolences to the widow, children and family of our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, on the sad news of his death. Ghana football has lost one of its finest personnel and ambassadors, one who will be difficult to replace. He’ll be sorely missed.” he tweeted
As a member of the Ghanaian national team, Christian Atsu earned 65 caps and played a critical role in helping the Black Stars reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final in Equatorial Guinea.
Throughout his career, Christian Atsu played in ten different clubs, including FC Porto and Hatayaspor, participating in 258 games, scoring 24 goals, and delivering 30 assists in the process.
