University first year student Safina Diamond, also known as Safina Mohammed Adizatu, is set to face trial for murder on September 18, 2023.
The Adentan District Court has committed Safina, a student at the University of Ghana, to stand trial at the High Court in Accra. She is accused of the murder of Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada.
The victim, Frank Kofi Osei, was brutally killed at the Ashaley Botwe School Junction in July 2022 during his visit to Safina, his girlfriend. While Safina, using the alias Safina Diamond, claims innocence, she was held over the incident. She stated in the District Court that she was not in the house at the time of the incident but nearby, making phone calls. She also identified a bag, submitted as evidence by the prosecution, as hers, which she claimed contained drinks.
Safina’s defense lawyers raised an initial objection, questioning the prosecution for not presenting all the exhibits at the Court Registry before tendering them. The prosecution deemed this objection unwarranted.
The prosecution’s case alleges that on July 24, 2022, while Osei was visiting Safina at her residence, Safina, along with Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku and other unidentified accomplices, allegedly stabbed and strangled Osei to death. It’s claimed that Osei’s blood was cleaned from the floor by Safina and her accomplices, and the body remained in the room for 24 hours before being moved and dumped at the house’s gate.
Safina reportedly called the police, informing them of her boyfriend’s death in her room. Police found Osei’s body at the gate of Safina’s house upon arrival, leading to her arrest.
The prosecution is expected to call nine witnesses, including Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, during the trial at the High Court.
