The Asamoah Gyan divorce case verdict was delivered by an Accra Court, affirming the ex-wife, Gifty Gyan, as the rightful parent of their three children and awarding significant assets in her favor.
After a three-year legal battle, during which Asamoah Gyan contested paternity and sought marriage annulment, an Accra court, on October 31, 2023, confirmed him as the father of the children.
As part of the judgment, Asamoah Gyan was ordered to pay Gifty Gyan GHS25,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep, excluding school fees, medical expenses, dental care, and other childcare costs.
Additionally, Gifty Gyan was granted ownership of Asamoah Gyan’s UK mansion, a 4-bedroom house in Spintex, Accra, a BMW vehicle, and an Infiniti car.
The court also awarded Gifty Gyan a parcel of land that Asamoah Gyan had acquired for a filling station.
The court annulled their marriage due to a technicality, as Gifty Gyan had a prior marriage for visa purposes, which Asamoah Gyan’s lawyers argued made her marriage to him null and void.
The court found that Gifty Gyan’s prior marriage was solely for visa purposes, and Asamoah Gyan was aware of this arrangement.
In 2002, Asamoah Gyan had facilitated a contract marriage for Gifty Gyan to obtain a UK visa for medical treatment when he was financially struggling. Lawyers for Gifty Gyan argued that Asamoah Gyan was aware of this arrangement, undermining his claim of annulment.
The court acknowledged that Gifty Gyan was a minor at the time of her supposed “first marriage” and annulled the marriage while confirming Asamoah Gyan as the children’s father through a court-sanctioned DNA test. His claims of infidelity regarding the children’s paternity were dismissed.
