Effective April 1, 2024, Ghana has increased its passport application fees, as announced on the passport application website.
Now, an expedited application for a 48-page booklet will be GH¢800, while the same service for a 32-page booklet will cost GH¢700.
For the standard 32-page passport booklet, applicants will now pay GH¢500, and for the 48-page option, the fee will be GH¢644.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration proposed a fee review in 2023, seeking to raise the old application charges from GH¢100 to GH¢644.
Addressing Parliament last year, Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey emphasized the need for realistic pricing, stating, “It is time for Ghanaians to pay realistic prices for passports they acquire to travel beginning next year.”
Botchwey highlighted the financial strain on the government, stating, “Ghanaians pay just about GH¢100 for a passport, yet to produce one passport booklet, it costs GH¢400, which means that for every passport that an applicant acquires, the government has to put in GH¢300, and this is not sustainable.
