The Accra Regional Police Command has summoned the management of Accra FM, owned by Class Media Group, to hand over their host, Nana Otu Darko, for interrogation.
This action is part of the ongoing investigation into remarks made by politician Hopeson Adorye during an interview on the station’s political discussion program.
In the course of the interview, Mr. Adorye asserted that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had instructed him to set off explosives in the Volta Region to intimidate backers of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and dissuade them from voting in past elections.
In light of these accusations, Mr. Adorye, a notable figure within the Movement for Change, was apprehended and subsequently brought before the court.
He was accused by the police of disseminating false information.
On Thursday, May 23, the Dansoman District Court granted Mr. Adorye bail, fixed at GH¢20,000 with two guarantors, one of whom must provide justification.
Following Mr. Adorye’s court appearance, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) issued a summons to Class Media Group, urging them to release their presenter, Nana Otu Darko, to assist in their inquiries.
The summons from the CID was dispatched to the media outlet on the same day, Thursday, May 23, underscoring the urgency and significance of the investigation.
According to the CID, the participation of Nana Otu Darko, the program’s host, is vital in unraveling the context and authenticity of Mr. Adorye’s statements, as law enforcement continues to delve into the potentially incendiary allegations.
“It would be preferable if the presenter could be released to appear at Accra Regional CID on Friday, 24 May 2024 at 10 am with a copy of the audio and video recording of the aforementioned program to expedite investigations,” the letter stated.
