The Yagbonwura of Gonjaland has issued a directive barring Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Lands, from entering any palace within the Gonja kingdom. This decree was made due to what the Yagbonwura termed as a violation of traditional norms and disrespect. Leaders in West Gonja accused the minister of meddling in local traditional affairs, causing widespread discontent.
During a press briefing, the Yagbonwura’s spokespeople underscored the seriousness of the matter, cautioning that any chief who welcomes Mr. Jinapor into their palace will face serious repercussions.
“The king will not entertain any government delegation, political figure, or visitor who includes Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor until he grasps his royal heritage and respects the Yagbonwura’s authority. This declaration applies definitively to all paramount chiefs in the Gonja kingdom,” they stated.
Local chiefs and leaders are expected to strictly enforce this directive to uphold the Yagbonwura’s authority. In response, some frustrated youth displayed banners with messages such as “Abu Jinapor, stop your self-interest and arrogance” and “No more undermining traditional authority.”
