Nigerian Actor , Jim Iyke, has revealed that film producers in the West African country decided to stop featuring him for two years after he championed the course to defend his poorly paid colleagues actors .
Speaking at the International Youth Empowerment Summit in Accra, Jim Iyke noted that this occurred after he stood before the “world class producers and stars” in the film business in Nigeria and requested better compensation for his associates.
At the point when his solicitation was not noticed, he “called” a group of actors and urged that they request “more cash.”
The producers , thusly, persevered and banned them in light of the fact that, as per Jim, they didn’t think the actors merited the increase in compensation . Accordingly, they enlisted new actors in 2004.
The actors who were banned were prominently called the G8. They included Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Richard Mofe Damijo, Genevieve Nnaji, Emeka Ike, Ramsey Nouah, Nkem Owoh, Stella Damasus , and Jim Iyke.
“Evidently, our producers were becoming multi-tycoons and the actors , not me, I mean folks that were marginally lower, were struggling. Thus, I called the group and prevailed upon them , we really want to change the narrative, without us they don’t exist. We are the ones the fans know. We have the gift and the ability for what reason would it be a good idea for them to acquire more than us?”
Jim Ike who has described the boycott as a “favoring,” added that the film business in Nigeria started to diminish as the new entertainers were “completely dismissed” by Nigerians.
Because of that, the producers needed to review them as they proved unable “make the 1 million and 2 million deals” motion pictures were rounding up before they banned the ‘G8’ actors .
The actors , who has featured in more than 150 films, said that this happened in light of the fact that the producers thought they “made” the actors and accordingly, they should accept anything they were given.
No matter what those opinions by the producers and advertisers, Jim Ike firmly accepted that despite the fact that “each star of result went under someone,” he was not made by those first class producers .
“On the negotiating table everyone had a remark. I made you, without me you could never have been that. I allowed you, your first opportunity. My partners kept calm since everyone had an inclining, had someone to point at to say without you I could not have possibly been whatever I became.
“Along these lines, I said something, would someone be able to stand up and honestly guarantee that without them I could not have possibly come up. Not one individual. Since I knew how I began. I knew the conviction that I had… I wouldn’t do little jobs. For the initial 2 to 3 years of my vocation, they continued to give me small role and I declined them. I said in the event that it’s not a significant lead then, at that point, I’m not going to do it ,” he hinted .
