The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II instructs the new Offinsomanhene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, to search for a replacement for Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, the current Queen mother of Offinso.
The Asantehene desires a candidate who can collaborate effectively with the newly appointed Omanhene, demonstrating willingness to cooperate and respond promptly to Manhyia Palace summons without offering baseless excuses.
This declaration at the Manhyia Palace marks the conclusion of Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko’s rule as the current Queen mother of the Offinso Traditional Area in Asanteman.
The Asantehene makes this statement on Thursday, January 11, 2024, during the inaugural meeting of the Asanteman Council for 2024.
The newly installed chief of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, swears his allegiance before the Asanteman Council, led by Asantehene.
The Asantehene’s destoolment is based on severe insubordination, primarily stemming from Offinsohemaa’s refusal to appear before Otumfuo despite numerous summons and other reported offenses.
Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko suggests Dr K. K. Sarpong, a former CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), as a candidate for the vacant Offinsomanhene stool. However, the Asantehene raises concerns about the candidate’s qualification according to the maternal lineage, instructing the Queen mother to rectify the situation.
Subsequently, the Queen mother consistently fails to respond to further summons, citing ill health on some occasions.
The matter persists until the Asantehene instructs the family head to take charge and find a candidate. Nana Amoako Poku is accepted by the royal family and the Manhyia Palace, becoming Nana Dwamena Akenten II. He succeeds the late Nana Wiafe Akenten III.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II informs the new Offinsomanhene that Offinso is now under his sole care without a queen mother. He charges him with finding a new queen mother to assist in fulfilling his duties once settled.
Otumfuo emphasizes the necessity for Offinso to have a queen mother present at Manhyia when needed.
